Plan My Job Search

How do I build a healthy pipeline?

Read this in context on the homepage →

A job search is more than a few simple queries.

You actually want complicated queries that use AND, OR and NOT, with and without quotes, and with brackets in the right place.

A healthy pipeline includes queries that can find all the titles you are capable of holding, in industries you know, close enough to where you live (or remote).

Your triage then needs to reduce your long-list into a short-list to review.

You can only properly apply to two or three a day - so choosing the right ones is critical.

What does a healthy pipeline look like?

If you want quality jobs to review, you need to have a steady flow of opportunities. It helps to think about what that pipeline looks like.

You want to be applying to two or three jobs per working day, so 40 to 60 per month
If you aim to read ten job descriptions, you should find the best 3 to apply to
You need to be finding between 50 and 100 new jobs per day, to make sure that the 10 descriptions are high enough quality
That means that your searches should be finding two thousand possibilities over a 30-day period

How do I plan my job searches?

Once you have a Career Profile, the natural next step is to 'Plan Job Search', so click that button on the Dashboard or ask your assistant

Your assistant will create LinkedIn search URLs with you
You can forward your LinkedIn job alert emails to your Develop21 account
Your assistant will help you set up your Indeed profile and connect to your Indeed account via MCP.
Your assistant will identify up to three more MCPs where jobs might be found. The supported MCPs are ZipRecruiter, Dice, JobDataLake, JobGet/Snagajob, Aquent, FoundRole, SonicJobs, Reed.co.uk and Jobtome
New servers are added as we learn about them. Send a Help request to notify us of an engine we are missing
Your assistant will write specific queries for you on each job board using Develop21 tools to understand all the different filters on each MCP, and how each responds to various query strategies
Each saved search - a LinkedIn or Indeed link, an email job alert, a search saved on an MCP job board - counts toward your allowance of 5 saved searches at any one time
Develop21 Storage customers can save an unlimited number of searches

How are searches built?

AI can build complex queries that are more likely to find the best roles for you. Humans have designed these steps, but AI can perform them much quicker than any human

AI identifies your field of work and your seniority and creates baseline job titles
These baseline titles are then expanded to include other titles that represent the same skills
The results are saved in a title pool. The search is built to look for all of them
The target industries are overlaid. Industry experience is an important short-cut through ATS filters
The location requirements are built in
And the results are counted over a 30-day period
To make a search narrower with fewer, more specific results, keywords can be added to search the job descriptions
These skills keywords help narrow the results, so that they contain a manageable number on a daily basis
